Cyberattack Hits Major Hospital in Spanish City of Barcelona
A major hospital in Barcelona, Spain, was hit by a cyberattack on Tuesday, causing disruption to its IT systems and forcing the hospital to cancel some appointments. The attack is believed to have originated from outside the hospital, and is being investigated by Spanish authorities.
The attack affected the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, one of the largest hospitals in Barcelona. The hospital said in a statement that it had taken “all necessary measures” to protect its systems and data, and that it was working with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident.
The attack caused disruption to the hospital’s IT systems, including its email and telephone systems. As a result, some appointments had to be cancelled, and the hospital said it was working to reschedule them as soon as possible.
Cyberattacks on hospitals are becoming increasingly common, as hackers target vulnerable systems in order to steal data or disrupt services. In this case, it is not yet clear what the attackers were after, or whether any data was stolen.
The attack on the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is the latest in a string of cyberattacks on hospitals in Spain. In April, a hospital in Madrid was hit by a ransomware attack, and in May, a hospital in Barcelona was targeted by hackers.
Cybersecurity experts have warned that hospitals are particularly vulnerable to cyberattacks, as they often have outdated IT systems and lack the resources to properly protect themselves. They have urged hospitals to invest in better security measures to protect their systems and data.
