Digital PLL achieves a power consumption of 0.265 mW

Scientists at Tokyo Institute of Technology have developed an advanced phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer that can drastically cut power consumption. This digital PLL could be an attractive building block for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and other wireless technologies to support a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Deep-learning neural networks have come a long way in the past several years—we now have systems that are capable of beating people at complex games such as shogi, Go and chess. But is the progress of such systems limited by their basic architecture? Shimon Ullman, with the Weizmann Institute of Science, addresses this question in a Perspectives piece in the journal Science and suggests some ways computer scientists might reach beyond simple AI systems to create artificial general intelligence (AGI) systems.

Researchers develop a new system to detect abuse in online communities

A team of researchers at Avignon University has recently developed a system to automatically detect abuse in online communities. This system, presented in a paper pre-published on arXiv, was found to outperform existing approaches for detecting abuse and moderating user-generated content.
